Over the past 42 years, Interact has been part of James Ruse school life, making it the longest running such club in a NSW high school. With over 8000 clubs in over 100 countries, Interact is one of the most significant and fastest growing programs of Rotary. The James Ruse Interact Club was founded to provide students with opportunities for fellowship and community service. Previously sponsored by Parramatta Rotary with us beginning a new partnership with Rydalmere Rotary in 2006, which has been extremely successful. Under the guidance of the supervising teacher and the Rydalmere Club, the Interact Club participates in a number of diverse activities, supporting a range of different causes and charities. As well as our local community, Interact has also contributed to the wider community through projects such as Make Poverty History and National Tree Day. A major project in 2007 has been a joint sponsorship with Rydalmere Rotary of a student at the School of Saint Jude in Tanzania.Through our sponsorship by Rydalmere Rotary, we have also been able to participate in MUNA, the Model United Nations Assembly. This is run by Rotary each year and in which teams from various schools represent countries and debate relevant worldwide issues such as climate change and capital punishment. Students learn more about the United Nations and its goals in terms of world peace and health, education and living standards for the earth while at the same time developing debating skills and learning about different cultures. The club meets regularly in room L1.2 at lunchtime.
