Extra Curricular : Prefects

The prefect body has a key role at James Ruse.  Their aims for 2007/2008 are to provide leadership for the school, encourage and enhance school spirit, be positive role models and improve the school and its environment for the benefit of the students and the wider community.  The prefects are inducted each July at a special assembly often addressed by former students of the school as special guests.

The responsibilities of prefects are wide and varied.  So far in the 2007/2008 year, the prefects have led the student body in:

  • Supporting the Cancer Council with a mini fair and the sale of daffodils and merchandise
  • Supporting Children's Medical Research through a mufti day and activities for Jeans for Genes
  • Supporting World Vision by sponsoring a child in Lebanon
  • Organising a 3-on-3 soccer competition to promote house spirit
  • Producing a number of information newsletters for students called Ricebowl
  • Producing a number of entertaining video clips played at assemblies to advertise upcoming prefect events
  • Celebrating Halloween with candy to the students
  • Selling white ribbons for the United Nations campaign to eliminate violence against women
  • Having our Captain, Vice Captain and Senior Prefect attend the Young Leaders' Conference at Darling Harbour
  • Chairing and supervising school assemblies, sports assemblies, the Awards day and presentation assembly.
