This week we received wonderful results from the Australian History Competition – congratulations to Jason Ye who came 3rd in NSW, Rhonda Ung who placed in the top 30 and Sebastian Tanase, Sing-Young Chen and Vithoo Sivanathan who were all in the top 60. Year 10 competed in this inaugural competition and received 30 High Distinctions, 58 Distinctions and 26 Credits. Well done to Year 10.

More than 31,000 students participated in the 2011 Rio Tinto Big Science Competition this year, with 58 students across the nation achieving a "top scorer" award. 14 James Ruse students achieved this award: William Hu, Simon Hua, Qing Ze Huang, Sunny Lu, Annette Onodi, Georgia Sun, Shelley Sun, Andrew Tchang, Andy Wang, Tally Zhuo, Jeewho Choi, Timothy Chong, Ricky Chung and Matthew Berry.

Australian Science Innovations is inviting all Australian students who achieved a top score to attend a formal presentation at the Australian Parliament House in Canberra on Thursday 15 th September 2011. The presentation will also include an address by Ruben Meerman (the Surfing Scientist). This is a wonderful opportunity for our very talented students.

Congratulations to Annie Li and Abbirami Linghanathan of year 11 who have been selected to attend the National Youth Science Forum in January, 2012.

Next week is Science Week at Ruse and we eagerly await the return of Mrs Pooviah and her team of presenters from Lord Howe Island. Activities will occur all week – a highlight will be the Science Assembly Period 5 Tuesday. Parents are invited to join the science staff for a "paper bag" lunch on Wednesday in the Staff Common Room.

The Malaysian Foodfair is on Tuesday – we look forward to the wonderful Malaysian feast that our parents and ex-parents are preparing for us. A big thank you in advance to all the wonderful helpers who will assist in the operation of the Malaysian Foodfair on Tuesday. Our parents, ex-parents, ex-students and friends are such a constant and wonderful support to the school. Hopefully monies raised will enable us to begin our program of air conditioning and also place more solar panels on our very sunny roof.

Please encourage your child to sell their raffle tickets and return as soon as possible to the school. The prizes this year are wonderful. Children need to understand the importance of contributing to their own education and needs. Please ensure they accept this responsibility and sell as many tickets as possible. If your child requires another booklet to sell please ask them to collect from the uniform shop. Thank you to everyone that attended the Mothers Club meeting on Thursday this week.
