Principal's Newsletter, Week 1, Term 3, 2015

posted Jul 25, 2015, 9:45 PM by Ms. Connors

Welcome back to Term 3.

Congratulations to our three International Olympiad students who have competed so far in the Olympiad competitions. Joshua Lin (12) has just returned from India where he competed in the International Physics Olympiad and achieved the fabulous result of a Bronze Medal. Well done Josh.

Six Australian students including Kevin Xian (11) and Yang Song (12) competed at the International Mathematics Olympiad and the Australian team came in 6th place in the world which is a fantastic result and the best since the competition began. Australia received 2 gold and 4 silver medals. Both Yang and Kevin received a silver medal which is a fantastic effort. The winning countries were 1st - USA, 2nd - China, 3rd -South Korea, 4th - North Korea, 5th - Vietnam and then Australia. Well done Yang and Kevin.

I had the privilege of attending the presentation of the T.G. Room Medal Ceremony this week. This medal is awarded to the student who achieved the highest mark in the Mathematics Extension II course. This year this medal was awarded to Michael Sun. It was also with huge delight that we learnt that Michael’s English Extension II work has been selected to be published in the Board of Studies Writer’s Showcase. Congratulations to this very talented young man. Michael reported that he is loving his Arts / Law course at Sydney University and his favourite subject last semester was French (which he has never studied before).
