Congratulations to Kevin Xian of Year 12 who has competed at the International Mathematics Olympiad which was held in Hong Kong over the holidays. Kevin has earned a Silver Medal to add to the one he received last year. Congratulations Kevin.
On the last day of term 2, 30 Year 10 students arrived in the very cold city before 6am to sell Red Nose merchandise to raise awareness of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. All students were wonderful ambassadors for our school, the cause and fabulous fundraisers. Thank you to Ms Murphy for organising this community service event.
Thank you to Ms Hameed and her team of students who have been running our NAIDOC week. The assembly yesterday was wonderful. Hearing stories and watching performances of Indigenous Australians was an honour.

Next Tuesday night at 6.30pm is our CoJR meeting. The guest speakers will be Liza Mayers and a number of students. Ms Mayers will outline the requirements of the English courses and suggest ideas and advice on how to ensure students achieve their best in English. Students and parents are welcome.
Students received their annual raffle tickets yesterday. The annual raffle is the major fundraiser of the CoJR and our parents have worked very hard to ensure many fabulous prizes were donated. Please encourage your children to sell their tickets quickly and return books and money to school.
We have seen the arrival of two sets of twin lambs and two single births over the last week on our farm. Very special to see.
Thank you to our year 10 students and parents that attended our Year 10 Information Night on Thursday night. Students now have considerable time to think carefully about their subject choices for 2017 and need to discuss options with their teachers at the Year 9 and 10 parent teacher night on Wednesday evening next week.
Thank you in advance to our fabulous parents who are working with dedication to ensure we have a spectacular food day next Tuesday. The Mother’s Club Food Day is a sensational fund and spirit raising event. Please ensure your children have some spare money on Tuesday to purchase the amazing array of food.
On Monday August 1st we will hold our very first outdoor Visual Art Exhibition. Joining forces with Carlingford West and Cumberland High School we will create a trail of sculptures from our farm to Cumberland High School. Year 8 students have created our amazing sculptures. Please take the time to come and walk along our trail on Monday from 1.30pm or on Tuesday 2nd. We would love parents to come to the launch if they are free.
Congratulations to our Year 8 English enrichment students who have competed in their first public Slam Poetry competition. In the holidays, Ms Romic, Ms Mayers and I had the pleasure of witnessing our students “slam”. It was truly amazing. An open and very social competition, the adults and audience were so supportive and appreciative of our students. It was fabulous to see Anagha Kanive-Hariharan achieve 1st Place at Parramatta, Matthew Ku 1st place at Bankstown and Joshua Salama 3rd at Parramatta. We were so proud of all our students. An enormous thank you to Ms Romic, the students’ inspirational, dedicated and hugely motivating teacher. A new group of students will have the chance to participate in this enrichment course in Semester 2.
Thank you to Mr Brus and Ms Pringle for organising a highly successful band camp for our band students. Thank you also to Ms Annetts and Mr Pronger for supervising.
Have a wonderful week
