Welcome back to Term 4. Hopefully everyone has had a relaxing and refreshing holiday. Year 12 begin their HSC examinations on Monday 13th October. We wish all students the very best in their upcoming exams. As we have explained to the students; illness and misadventure is different for the HSC to our school policy. In the HSC it is advisable to always sit the paper, if unwell a medical certificate is sought and a special form filled in. Students should always tell the Presiding Officer of any concerns. Illness and Misadventure forms are available from the Presiding Officer, Ms St Louis, Mr Long and myself. We wish all our HSC students well.

Due to the wonderful achievement of our Year 10 Science and Engineering Challenge team, we have moved our Year 9 and 10 exams.

Year 9 exams will now occur in Week 4 and Year 10 exams will now occur in Week 5

Students have been notified of this change.

We have been given permission to advertise our next Head Teacher vacancy. We will be forming a panel to advertise for a Head Teacher of Creative and Performing Arts.

Five students have achieved a Medal in the Australian Mathematics competition. Congratulations to Hao Chen (7), Bobby Dey (9), Karen Gong (11), Haradarshana Kannan (9) and Katrina Shen (7). This wonderful achievement will be recognised in a ceremony at Government House in Brisbane on November 7th.

Justin Wu (10) has been selected to represent Western Sydney Region at the Junior State Debating Competition this year. Congratulations Justin.

In the holidays I had the wonderful honour of witnessing Tanya Han (12) receive the Marie Bashir Award for her contribution to the creation of peace and harmony in the community.

The last week of Term 3 was incredible at Ruse. Our Central Australian team were immersed in an Aboriginal school and were highly praised by the Principal for their fabulous contribution to classrooms.

Year 8 completed their cross curriculum project designing the future city of Parramatta 2050 (pictures will follow my report). Our Senior Wind and String Ensembles conducted a highly successful tour of the Bathurst area and our Music faculty hosted a Wonderful Cabaret Night 2014.

The Year 11 Drama Production transporting us back to Renaissance Venice premiered last night and will also play tonight at 7pm in the Hall. The Year 11 Drama class have put in a superb effort to perform “Scenes from an Execution”. Congratulations and thank you to Mr Jamie Gerlach who has led, inspired and directed this fabulous production. Tickets (a gold coin donation) are available at the door. I hope to see you there.

Congratulations again to Daniel Selvadurai (8) who will compete at the NSW Public Speaking Final Competition next Friday. A media release received from Legacy is included later on in this newsletter.

Have a wonderful week
