On Friday night last week I had the pleasure of joining Kathy Xu (year 12 2014), her parents, Ian Goggin and Ashlee Walker at the Opening of Art Express. Kathy’s beautiful pieces were impressively displayed as we entered the Sutherland Gallery at Gymea. For our many students and families that live in the southern parts of Sydney a visit to the gallery would be very worthwhile.
Thank you to the many parents that attended our first Community of James Ruse meeting on Tuesday night. Thank you to our Year 12 students of 2014 – Kajanan Parameshwaran and Yueyue Miao for giving advice and tips for HSC survival and success. Kajanan’s speech appears below.
This week the Prefects have worked tirelessly to ensure the school community have enjoyed Valentines’ Week at JRAHS. The dance and concert were a huge success.
On Wednesday night, four students - Jeffrey Khoo (11), Malcolm Zou (11), Helen Park (10), Ashley Wong (9) and I – presented at Dundas Primary School. The students shared their experiences as a student in a selective high school and the opportunities they appreciate.
Next Thursday at 9.45am we will hold our first Mothers’ Club meeting of 2015. Once again we will showcase our HSC success and hear the stories of Michael Sun and Brook Cao, students of 2014.
This weekend we will hold our first cadet bivouac and cadets will walk from Cowan to the Hawkesbury River. Thank you to Mr McFayden, Mrs McKenzie, Mr Pakes and Mrs Billing for supervising the hike.
As we announced at the end of last year, our Robotics team won the Australian title at the National First Robotics Championships. FIRST, an acronym for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” is an international phenomenon, which pairs high schools with corporate engineering sponsors to build a robot which will compete in a sport-like event. The goal of the FIRST program is to give students hands-on experience working with real engineers, so that engineers and scientists are seen as role models in the same way professional athletes are. For further information refer to http://www.usfirst.org/
SPONSORSHIP NEEDED – To campaign at an international level the JRAHS Robotics team need sponsorship. THANKYOU to the donors who have already supported this fabulous cause. If you are writing a cheque to assist us - please address the cheque to:
If you would like to direct deposit into the JR Robotics Club Westpac Bank Account please do so at
BSB 032282 Account: 318514
Many small donations would make a huge difference in our campaign eg our ability to transport the robot whole in a container rather than rebuilding it on arrival in the USA.
Please also email Mrs Pooviah or myself if you make a donation so that we can keep accurate records of all that help us.
On Monday we will hold our Swimming Carnival at Parramatta pool. The swimming carnival is mandatory for all students. If your child is unwell on the day of the carnival I ask that you provide your son or daughter with a medical certificate to cover their absence. All carnival attendance is recorded on school reports.
Next Tuesday we will hold our annual High Achiever’s Assembly. We have two wonderful guest speakers. Both speakers have just finished university and begun their careers in medicine and law respectively. Rashi Minocha and Sean Lau both of the class of 2007 will present. Sean was announced late last year as the NSW Rhodes Scholar for 2015 and completed his studies in Law at the University of NSW. Rashi completed her residency at Westmead earlier this year and is now working at RPA.
