Principal’s Report

Congratulations to Jumaana Abdu and Darius Zhu of Year 12 who were the successful recipients of the John Lincoln Community Service Award. Jumaana and Darius were recognised for their commitment to serving others, raising awareness of social justice issues and also advocated of others. Thank you to Ms Belinda Buurma who was able to attend the event at Macquarie University to congratulate our students.

Congratulations to Ms Nancy Zhu who has given birth to a beautiful baby boy – Luke. Congratulations to Nancy and her husband, Steven.

On Tuesday night we held our Community of James Ruse AGM and election. I would like to thank our outgoing committee members who have made such valuable contributions to our school over many years – in particular John Anandanathan and Para Parameshwaran. It was also a pleasure to learn from Mr Richard Grant, Head Teacher of Agriculture, on the importance of embedding Agriculture across our school curriculum.

We are beginning to hear of the fabulous successes of our students across all our Olympiad Examinations – Physics, Chemistry, Biology, EES, Informatics and Mathematics. Record numbers of students have achieved High Distinctions in the Science Olympiads. Approximately 22 invitations have been received by students to the Science Scholar Schools, 5 to Mathematics and 5 to Informatics. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our teachers that coordinate and also teach these programs – Mrs Weber, Mrs Pooviah, Mr Khoury and Mr Hutchinson. I would also like to thank our many student tutors who passionately teach their peers each week.

Congratulations to Jessica Guo who recently competed at the NSW All Schools Athletic Championships and came away with 2 silvers, in the 17yrs girls 1500m and 17yrs girls 3000m.
She will now compete at the Australian All Schools Championships in Canberra between December 1st-4th.

Year 12 have passed the half way mark of their HSC exams and seem to be holding up well. We wish them well as they move into their last week of exams

Over the weekend our first calf of 2016 was born. The farm is looking fabulous and many excited students have been to visit our new baby boy. Students have been debating a suitable name starting with ‘M”.

On Monday trees will be removed for the beginning of the building of the Gym. After almost 20 years of fundraising it seems almost unreal to be getting so close – we should see the concrete poured before Christmas.

It was very sad to hear this week of the tragic accident that occurred at Dreamworld. Our School Community was saddened to hear that we had lost a former student, Roozi Araghi.  Roozi was of the class of 1996 and as a group they had just celebrated their 20 year reunion. Roozi is fondly remembered by his teachers as bright and passionate, a fabulous debater and a wonderful young man. We pass our condolences to his family and friends.

After my extended leave and holiday to Europe it was fabulous to return to school and to be greeted by the many smiles and hellos of our students. An enormous thank you to Ms Annetta St Louis who is able to fill the role of Principal so successfully. Thank you to Ms Heather Weber who relieved as Deputy Principal and Ms Sue Briggs who relieved as our Head Teacher of Mathematics.

If you have not already done so, please take the opportunity to complete the Tell Them From Me Parent Survey.

Please also keep Tuesday 15th November free to attend our Combined Mothers Club and CoJR meeting at 9.45 am. We have a guest speaker – Jocelyn Brewer – who will discuss the use of technology by adolescents and suggestions for parents.
