Congratulations to YuYu Ma and Steven Liu (of Year 12) who have been invited to represent Australia at the 2017 Asia Pacific Physics Olympiad which will be held in Eastern Siberia (Russia) between May 5 and May 9. This is a fabulous achievement for the students and their teacher, Mr Khoury.

On Friday night we were privileged to attend OnStage ( HSC Drama Showcase). We were awed by Henry Ye’s performance and his compering of the night. Susanna Li’s beautiful and well thought out Director’s Portfolio was also showcased. Congratulations to Henry, Susanna, Ms Amy Murphy and Mr Jamie Gerlach. It was also fabulous to see our 2015 students on the program cover.

Mr Ian Goggin and Ms Ashlee Engelfield had the pleasure of attending the opening of Art Express at the Hazelwood Gallery. Nicole Zhang’s work was displayed.

The Year 7 camp has been a spectacular success with all Year 7 students, Year 11 Peer Support leaders and teachers having a fabulous time. Thank you to Mr Ng, Ms Novotni and Mrs Samy-Pullay for their wonderful organisation. Thank you also to our supervising teachers who have given up so much of their own time – Ms St Louis, Mr Driscoll, Mr Goggin, Ms Bobavanic, Ms Belevski and Mr Zounis.

Congratulations on making the Top 100!
Dear Ms Jenns,

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia (NSW Division) would like to congratulate you and your school’s achievement in making the ‘Top 100’ Award Units in NSW.

We thank you for your significant and valuable contribution as the Award Leader. We would also like to acknowledge your Assessors and Supervisors and their contribution to the success of your program. Without this hard work, dedication and commitment the Award would simply not exist.

It was wonderful to receive the above letter earlier this week. Our Duke of Edinburgh program continues to flourish. Thank you to Ms Jenns, Mr Pakes and Ms McKenzie.

It is with great pleasure I announce that we are implementing an Agricultural tour to Vietnam. The tour will leave on Friday 22nd of September and return home on the 29th September. This tour will explore the diversity of Vietnam and focus on the agricultural practices being utilised. Ms Hameed is organising the excursion. Permission notes are available on request from Ms Hameed in the Ag staffroom. It looks like a fabulous opportunity to explore a very different culture and country

The participation of students at the Swimming Carnival was fabulous. Thank you to Mr Low and the PDHPE faculty for the amazing organisation of yet another event.

Congratulations also to our Prefects who have done a wonderful job raising school spirit this week. It has been lovely to watch the deliveries of roses, serenades, fun at the dance and also a spectacular concert on Friday. Thank you to Ms Briggs our Prefect Advisor for her guidance and support.

Thank you to Mothers’ Club for hosting their first meeting yesterday and inviting our High Achievers to attend. Well attended, it was a great opportunity for parents to ask questions and also get to know each other. Thank you to Mrs Angela Tung and the Executive team. I will include transcripts of some of our Year 12 2016 speeches in this newsletter edition.

Parents please encourage all students to check their education email address regularly as the Daysheet and other important information is emailed daily.

Stanger Danger - Students need to be aware that we must be vigilant when walking to and from school at all times. Students need to be aware of their surroundings and if possible walk with a buddy or another Ruse student. Unfortunately an incident where a student from another school was followed occurred in the Parramatta area.
