Congratulations to Darius Zhu and Jumaana Abdu, both of Year 12, who have been successful in achieving the prestigious John Lincoln Award for Community Service. This award is presented by the Order of Australia Committee and is a highly regarded honour. Darius and Jumaana have not only contributed to the life of the school but have also served their communities, advocating for the rights of others and using their leadership skills to highlight social justice concerns.
Congratulations also to Annie Chen of Year 12 who is this year’s winner of the Future Leaders Writing Prize. Annie’s writing will be featured in a book to be published by Future Leaders early in 2017. (www.futureleaders.com.au) Annie’s prize is a $500 cheque.
What an amazing effort from our Year 12 students; not only are they combining their study, school work and exams but still able to contribute in so many positive ways – well done. Year 12 are now finished their Trial Examinations and the most important phase of the year begins – consolidation and refinement of knowledge and exam techniques. Year 12 have already formed study groups and I hope these begin again next week. It is our collaboration at this stage that always makes the difference in our HSC success.
Congratulations to the many students who have prepared and sat for the National Qualifying Exams in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Earth and Environmental Science over the last week.
On Thursday 25th August, Mother’s Club will hold their Annual General Meeting. We have been very fortunate to secure a guest speaker from the University of Sydney’s Medicine faculty. The process of completing medicine at Sydney, the application and interview will be discussed. We will also hear presentations from four ex-students who are in their first few years of work (working in commerce, law and medicine). These presentations will give us an amazing insight into the journey of our students and the opportunities they seek after school.
Raffle tickets – As you are aware the major fundraising event for our CoJR is the annual Raffle. Over the last 3 years, the CoJR have assisted in air conditioning the whole school, paid for the complete refurbishment of one science lab and contributed a significant sum to the proposed building of the gym. Please ensure your child returns their sold raffle tickets to school ASAP. Tickets are collected on sports assembly or handed in to Mrs Mayer’s Deputy Principal’s Office.
Attendance – It is a requirement that all students attend school every day and for every lesson. Sport is a mandatory school activity and cannot be missed. Please do not make any appointments for Wednesday afternoons as our teams need every player present. It is also essential that all students attend school before exams. Students completing a Preliminary course whether in Year 11, 10 or 9 must not miss school in the week before an assessment task. If a student is ill a medical certificate is required. These rules must be adhered to in order for all students to be treated fairly and equitably.
