Our wonderful Year 9 debating team have won the Regional Quarter Final in the Premier's Debating Challenge for Years 9 and 10. The team now moves on the Regional Semi-Final, to be held at Ruse in the next few weeks. Well done, team!

High Resolves School Action Project updates:

9T conducted a Language Immersion afternoon for all year 7 students yesterday. Year 7 were treated to an interactive experience celebrating a number of languages and cultures.

9L will be holding a "mini-expo" on healthy living in the Hall at lunch on Friday 21st August.

9C will launch their project, Gratitude Attitude, to the school next week.

We held our first combined schools Think Tank last week. 7L represented James Ruse and combined with Year 7 students from Cumberland and Year 6 students from Carlingford West to form small groups to create a proposal of how the schools could work closer together. 7L were fabulous leading their teams. The proposals will be presented to representatives of our SRC on September 1st.

On Thursday 20th August, Year 12 Music will showcase their Music 2 and Music Extension performances. Each year the standard of these performances are stunning and this year will be no exception. Please come along at 6.00pm in the Lecture Theatre to witness and appreciate the amazing talents of our students.

Year 12 and our accelerated classes have finished their Trial HSC examinations. They now begin the most important period of HSC preparation. Once feedback from the trial is given, students need to work on consolidating their knowledge and practice every possible type of question. Our Music, Drama, Visual Arts and English Extension II students are putting the finishing touches on their major works. We will speak to Year 12 of the importance of attending every lesson, every day and also of the value of joining small study groups.

History Debating News

On Friday August 7 the Year 11 History debating team travelled to King’s School to debate the topic: “That the USA provoked Japan into war in 1941.” The team of Simon Yang, Edward Jiang, Daniel Yan and Jumaana Abdu successfully argued the negative case via a combination of clever argumentation and skilful rebuttals. The quality of the team’s research and analytical thinking was outstanding. Our Year 10 Team of William Chua, Katherine Cheng, Fayanne Cui and Maggie Tan lost narrowly in their debate against King’s. However, the quality of their arguments and thoroughness of their preparation cannot be faulted. We are hopeful that both teams will now progress to the quarter final stage of the competition.
