2014 AMC Medal Presentation – Congratulations again to our 5 students who received an AMC medal last Friday in a ceremony at Government House in Brisbane. It was impressive to hear that only one in 7000 students receive a medal. Congratulations to Karen Gong (11), Bobby Dey (9), Dharshana Kannan (9), Katrina Shen (7) and Hao Chen (7). Below I have included photos of the event.

Also congratulations to our Robotics students who have had a very tight but exciting victory at Macquarie University last weekend. The team now moves into the national finals in 3 weeks time - good luck.  Thank you to Mrs Pooviah and Ms Kong who have given up so much time to support our teams.

Thank you to Mr Patrick Wong and his students for their contribution to the success of the DEC’s Celebration Concert last weekend.

To honour Remembrance Day our school assembly listened to Ashley Wong and William Chua of year 9 give a moving account of the history and importance of Remembrance Day.

Rehan Gunawardhana  (7) won his round delivering a speech titled “Peace – Is it possible?” at The Hills Shire 2015 Australia Day Public Speaking Competition and is through to the Grand Finals. The event is open to the public and will be held on Australia Day at the Bella Vista Farm Park. The event is contested by high school students with the competition judged by Toastmasters and run according to their rules.

Upeka Nanayakkara (11) participated in the New South Wales Schools Constitutional Convention at Parliament House, Macquarie St, Sydney on Monday 10 November.

Upeka reported that the Convention was really interesting and had great guest speakers. Upeka definitely gained a greater awareness of both parliamentary and Indigenous issues. Upeka wrote, “Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity, and I would definitely recommend it for future Year 11s. “

Upeka also entered the Oz Day Public Speaking Competition and was selected as a finalist. Elizabeth Williamson (9) was also selected from the Junior competition.

Invoices have been sent to families. Please contact the school office to settle any outstanding payments. We are attempting to ensure all children’s accounts are settled before the end of the year.

Thank you to our Prefects and Mrs Briggs for organising our donations to the Red Cross Blood Bank and collaborating with Cumberland High School to ensure a successful turnout.

Have a wonderful week
