Principal’s Report

What a fabulous week at Ruse! Year 10 have spent three amazing days exploring the city in the Urban Challenge. Our students have been incredible, seizing every opportunity, collaborating in teams to solve the challenges and enthusiastically enjoying every moment. This fabulous excursion could not have been possible without our dedicated Ruse teachers who were willing to give up their own time and much energy to ensure the safety and success of this experience. Special thanks to Mr Morgan Gengiah, Ms Alicia North, Ms Belinda Buurma, Ms Sophie Belevski, Mr Garry Ng, Ms Lauren Silvestro, Ms Sandra Fernando, Ms Katrina Jenns, Ms Kaarin McKenzie and Mr Mansour Khoury (aka Gru).

Year 7 have been having a lovely time at swim school. Thank you to our PDHPE staff and teachers for organising and supervising.

Year 9 have been completing three days of cross curricular studies while “solving their problem”. Confronted with the big problems facing our planet, Year 9 presented Ted style talks to each other offering their solutions. Thank you to Mrs Jenny Bowen and her team for creating this program.

Recently our 5 Australian team members were recognized by Julie Owens MP. Andre Lo, Maxwell Ding, Daniel Ho, Simon Yang and Kevin Xian were honored and presented certificates on behalf of Australia.

Last week Year 8 participated in our “Farmer’s Cup” Gala Day against Model Farms. It was a spectacular day of enthusiasm and sportsmanship and an overall victory for Year 8. Our Year 10 coaches were also wonderful.

Thank you to Mothers’ Club and the CoJR for hosting their Combined Meeting on Tuesday. Jocelyn Brewer shared practical strategies to help families live in our digital world.

Congratulations to Chelsy Teng of Year 9 who achieved the runner’s up award for the UNSW Bragg Student Prize for Science Writing. Chelsy’s essay is reprinted below.
