Principal's Newsletter, Week 7, Term 3, 2014

posted Sep 30, 2014, 5:27 AM by Joshua Lau
This week we have farewelled another member of the JRAHS staff: Paolo Tardelli who has been our wonderful gardener for the past five years. A talented and creative man, Paolo has used his many skills and talents to ensure our lovely grounds have flourished. Paolo is well respected by both the staff and students of our school and will be missed. We wish him well in his retirement and great enjoyment in the many travels to come.

On Monday evening, the school was treated to the HSC Music performances. Although I was at the Year 8 Camp, Ms St Louis and Mr Long were so impressed with the amazing talents of our current HSC students.

Our Year 10 debating team, coached by Ms Ng, will debate Model Farms High School today.

The Year 8 RAP (Resourceful Adolescent Program) Camp was held on Monday and Tuesday at Milson Island in the Hawkesbury River. Coordinated by Ms Brooks and Ms Ng, this camp was a fabulous experience for all involved. Thank you to Mr Gerlach, Ms Zhu, Mr Stanley, Ms Brooks and Ms Ng for supervising this valuable event. I attended the camp and was so impressed by the enthusiastic, harmonious and respectful behaviour of the year 8 students. We are all very proud of them.

Our Year 10 High Resolves students attended a Social Justice Forum this week at Miller Technology High School. Thank you to Ms Burgess for organising this excursion.

Thirty two Year 10 students attended the Science and Engineering Challenge in Newcastle on Thursday and WON. They have been invited to represent NSW at the National Championships in Adelaide on October 29 th . I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr Trevor Allison (father of ex-student Kimberley) who was an enormous help in coordinating the entire raffle process. We could not have processed so many tickets without his help. Thank you also to Mrs Boey Wong, in the Uniform Shop, and Mrs Romi Whiteman, who looks after our attendance system and printroom, who were invaluable in offering their support to the collection process.

Our Raffle is one of the major CoJR’s fundraising initiatives and will help us improve the learning environment at school and in particular in our labs.

Thank you to the many parents who have already paid their 2014 Contributions and Subject Fees. Due to our new accounting system we were very late in sending out our statements. If you have not paid your contributions it would be greatly appreciated if you could do so before the end of the term. Resourcing our introduction of the new Australian Curriculum in Maths, English, History and Science requires an enormous purchase of new texts for each subject in Year 8 and 10 in 2015. We need to raise these funds to be able to purchase texts early next term.

Have a wonderful week
