Principal's Newsletter, Week 8, Term 3, 2014

posted Sep 30, 2014, 5:34 AM by Joshua Lau
Last weekend our Year 10 students certainly battled the elements as they completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh hike – rain, wind, leeches abounded. Thankfully all made it back safely. Thank you to Ms Jenns and Mr Pakes for once again supervising another expedition.

Our Cadet Passing Out Parade was held today. This very special ceremony was once again beautifully implemented and we thank the outgoing Year 12 cadets for their contribution to the JRAHS Cadet unit over the last 5 -6 years. It was wonderful to welcome back Matthew Rudd to inspect our parade. Thank you to Mr Bruce McFadyen, Mr Alan Best, Mr Peter Low and Mr Dave Shaw for their efforts in coordinating the parade and ensuring our cadet program operates smoothly.

Passing Out

 Rank Name Years in Unit

 CDTSGT TAN Angela 5
 CDTSGT ZENG Georgia 5
 CDTCPL LIN George 6

Thank you to the many parents who have already paid their 2014 Contributions and Subject Fees. Due to our new accounting system we were very late in sending out our statements. If you have not paid your contributions it would be greatly appreciated if you could do so before the end of the term. Resourcing our introduction of the new Australian Curriculum in Maths, English, History and Science requires an enormous purchase of new texts for each subject in Year 8 and 10 in 2015. We need to raise these funds to be able to purchase texts early next term.

Years 7-10 have now completed the second session of their Elevate Education Study Skills program. The website is and the username and password were also shared. Ms Novotni our Learning Support Coordinator and Acting Head Teacher Welfare has organised the Study Skills program.

Next week is a very important week in the school calendar as we celebrate the achievements of our present Year 12 cohort at Awards Day and also welcome our new students in Years 8-11 to JRAHS on Friday 12 th . On Thursday 11 th at 6.30pm we will hold our Year 11 Information Evening. Mr Jason Driscoll will outline career topics relevant to our students – careers, scholarships, cadetships, medical applications etc and I will discuss the scaling procedure used by UAC. All Year 11 students and their parents should attend.

This week is SASS Recognition week and I would like to acknowledge the fabulous efforts of our SASS team. We are a very lucky school to have support staff that always put students, teachers and parents first.
