We received the spectacular news during the week that our entire Drama Class, each member of the two groups, received an On Stage nomination for their HSC performances. Our talented students – Ben Liu, Brian Marr, Wiley Ye, Kelvin Zhai Lui, Sarah Chang, William Chen and Bob He – were thrilled with their success and so excited to be sharing it with the whole class. Congratulations to their teachers, Mr Jamie Gerlach and Ms Amy Murphy, for their inspirational efforts.

Congratulations to Ishraq Huda (12) and Winston Gu (11) who won the prestigious UNSW Progcomp on Saturday. It was a very tough competition where our students competed against Ishraq’s International Informatics teammates. However with 20  minutes to spare Ishraq and Winston solved all the problems and received full marks. Joshua Lau (pictured in red) and Evgeny Martynov, our ex-students, were there to cheer the boys on.

Thank you to Ms Fernandez, Mr Long, Mr Gerlach, Mrs Twomey and Mr Ng  who ran our Year 8 camp to Milson Island. Year 8 behaved superbly enjoying the beautiful landscape and each other’s company.

Our cadets held their annual dinner to celebrate the passing out of our Year 12 students. Thank you Mr McFadyen and Mr Low for organising this fabulous night.

Thank you to the parents who were able to join us yesterday for our Awards Day. This very special event celebrates the achievements of our HSC students and also those students who have achieved international success. Our guest speaker, Emily Burke (class of 2009) gave a moving speech sharing advice on making hard choices and looking after your health as you explore your pathways beyond school. Our 2015-2016 prefects run this event and did a marvellous job of keeping our traditions and ceremonies alive. Thank you to Ms St Louis, Mr Long, Ms Annetts, Mrs Hayes and Mrs Haslehust-Smith for organising this fabulous event

Congratulations to Stephanie Wu and Brendan Ma who are the inaugural winners of the Sydney University and JRAHS Leadership Awards.

Next week is our final week for year 12 at school. It has been a wonderful journey with this superb year group and we wish them well as they move into their HSC examinations. I would like to publically thank Ms Kristy Webb who has been a constant source of support and guidance over six years as their year advisor. Thank you also to Mr Tim Flood who has been Year 12’s assistant year advisor.

As we approach the holidays please ensure your child spends time meeting up with friends and getting together with their classmates. Learning to socialise and exploring limited independence is very important in adolescence. Year 11 in particular need to rest and relax before they begin their HSC studies in Term 4.

Year 8 began their cross curricular project today – Redesigning the Future. The focus this year will be redesigning the new Museum of Applied Arts and Science (Powerhouse Museum) in the Parramatta precinct. Students will be given the task of preparing a proposal of their vision of Parramatta and the Museum which will be presented in a trade display format. Students will be assessed on the sustainability and heritage value of their proposal. As part of this project students will visit the existing Museum of Arts and Science and have listened to guest speakers such as Museum staff and sustainability experts. We would love Year 8 parents to join us for the judging of the Trade Display on Thursday 17th September between 10.00a.m and 12.00 noon.

On Saturday it was wonderful to welcome back the class of 2010 for their 5 year reunion. It was great to catch up with them. Looking happy and still very connected, some are now working, others in their last year of university and our young doctors beginning internships.

Congratulations to both our Chess Teams who successfully competed on Sunday at the NSW Secondary Schools One Day Tournament in Junior and Open divisions. The opens perpetual trophy; the Terry Shaw Shield Trophy has now been won by James Ruse for the last four years.

We wish two of our staff members, Ms Ashlee Walker and Ms Alicia Hall, joyous wedding celebrations in the holidays. Ms Annetta St Louis will be taking four weeks long service leave from next week and Mr Gerard Yeo will relieve as Deputy Principal.
