Principal's Newsletter, Week 9, Term 2, 2016

posted Jul 6, 2016, 5:06 PM by Ms. Connors
Congratulations to our fabulous Olympiad team members – Simon Yang (Chemistry), Daniel Ho (Earth and Environmental), Maxwell Ding (Biology), Andre Lo (Biology) and Kevin Xian (Maths). Mrs Weber and Mrs Pooviah travelled to Canberra on Monday to witness the announcement of the Australian teams. Pictured above with Adam Spencer, the students had a wonderful time and are looking forward to beginning their Olympiad competitions.

Congratulations to our zone athletics team who competed on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Thank you to all our staff, student helpers and participants who attended Zone Athletics. Thank you also to our fabulous sports captains – Joel Jenson and Ria Sinha – who worked so well together to organise our students and ensure everyone competed in the correct events. Mrs McKenzie and Mr Driscoll once again did a marvellous job at running these events.

Last Friday, Ms Fernandez supervised our Year 12 students as they participated in the National Titration Competition at the University of Sydney. This is a fabulous event that tests the knowledge and practical skills of our very talented Chemistry students. Our teams performed very well at the competition with the team of Maxwell Ding, Jackie Chen and Harish Suresh gaining second place.

Next week is SRC week and we are all looking forward to a wonderful week of fun, games and spirit raising activities. Please ensure you allow your child to attend the SRC dance on Wednesday night (6pm-9pm). It is a great opportunity for students of all years to have fun together and it is important that students experience this wonderful tradition. We do ask that all parents walk to the school gate to collect students. We do not allow students to walk away from the hall unsupervised.

Year 7-10 Reports – Junior reports will be issued to students on Monday July 25th.

We apologise    that this is later than our published date; however we wish to ensure the

quality of all our reports before they are issued.

Our HSC students have finished their term 2 assessments and our now working on refining their topics and skills for the trial examinations which begin in Week 3 next term on Monday 1st August. Year 12 will not be given any STUVAC days this year as UMAT has moved to Week 2 (Wednesday 27th July).

This will be our last newsletter for Term 2. I wish everyone a very restful and rejuvenating holiday. Our school policy is that junior students should not be given homework or tasks over the holidays. Instead we strongly encourage students to try new adventures, read lots of books, go to the movies and visit the Art Gallery, Museum etc. To help young people make good decisions as they grow older, we need to allow them certain freedoms suitable to their age.
