Exciting news - THREE pieces of our Year 12 Drama performances have been nominated for OnStage.
Henry Ye's Individual Performance titled 'Predetermined' which is a self-devised mime piece about struggling with a predetermined path.
Daniel Yan's Individual Performance titled 'Oh the places you'll go...' which is a self-devised piece about solitary confinement.
Daniel Yan, Anita Ma and Kevin Zhu's Group Performance titled 'Roped In' which is an absurdist piece about the fear of change.
We are all so proud of these students and the entire Year 12 class. Everyone's Group Performances and Individual Performances evoked powerful audience responses and allowed the students to embrace the challenge and rewards of making something meaningful and unique.
Congratulations to these amazing Year 12 students and their teachers, Ms Amy Murphy and Mr Jamie Gerlach.
On Friday last week we hosted the 2016 Ideas Forum. It was a truly inspirational event and as a teacher I was in awe of the fabulous presentations – the creative ideas, critical thoughts and humorous renditions of pop culture. The last session was the senior panel led by our School Captain, Fayanne Cui. The thought provoking sharing of opinions was greatly applauded by the full audience. Thank you to our Social Justice Coordinator, Ms Adrienne Steele, for her amazing organisation of this event. Thank you also to the student leaders Sakilan Gopalarajah, Aditi Dalal and Wayne Wong.
Jackie Chen, Maxwell Ding and Harish Suresh of Year 12 were invited to participate in the Australian National Titration Competition at UNSW on Saturday 10 September. After 3 hours of titrating and deliberating the team emerged cool and confident that they had done their best. They earned a well deserved second place and a gold pin in this challenging event and are to be congratulated on their fine efforts. Thank you also to Ms Fernandez for her guidance and supervision of the team.
Congratulations also to Ms Ashlee Englefield and her husband Ben who are now the proud parents of a beautiful baby boy, Grayson Peter.
On Tuesday we celebrated the achievements of our fabulous Year 12 students. Thank you to Ms Haselhurst-Smith, Ms Hayes, Ms Novotni, Ms Mayers and Ms St Louis for their fabulous organisation of this celebration. Thank you also to Ms Annetts and Mr Goggin for ensuring the smooth operation on the day.
It was a pleasure to welcome back ex-student Melinda Howes as our guest speaker at this year’s Awards Day. Melinda attended Ruse between 1980 and 1985. Melinda gave a fabulous speech, outlining her career as an actuary in the Financial Services sector and her discovery of her passion for superannuation.
At our Award’s Day Assembly we wish our Year 12s every success in their HSC but more importantly their lives. As a school community we wish Year 12 and their families a wonderful future ahead; a future full of challenge, adventure, good health, friendship and passion. Our Year 12 students have been a credit to themselves and their families. Next week we enjoy their final concert on Monday afternoon, share lunch with their families on Tuesday and have a great time at the beach on Wednesday. On Thursday the real work of studying for the HSC begins. The HSC begins on Thursday 13th October. Again we wish them good luck and good fortune.
Many of our students achieved great success in the Economics and Business Studies competition. Pictured below are our students as they received their awards and prizes at UNSW.
At the recent NSW CHS Athletic Championships, Jessica Guo of Year 12, performed exceptionally well coming 3rd in the 17s+ 3000m and 2nd in the 17s+ 1500m. Well done Jessica.
On Saturday 10th September, our Japanese students competed in the Japanese Speaking competition. Congratulations to Liesl Chen and Gabrielle Seberry who placed 1st and 3rd in the competition.
Congratulations to our SRC who have run another highly successful trivia and movies afternoon. Thank you to Ms St Louis and our teachers for supervising this fun event.
This is our last newsletter for Term 3. I would like to wish all our students a fabulous and rejuvenating holiday. Our junior students are expected to take a break from study – no homework or assignments. Please encourage students to seek out new opportunities, meet up with friends and enjoy the lovely spring weather.
