Principal’s Report

The end of the year is nearly here. Exams are marked; reports are written and are now being checked.  I would like to thank all the teachers for the huge amount of work that goes in to term 4. Also may I thank all the ancillary staff for the support behind the scenes to make sure every event is well organised and professional.

The Year 10 formal at the Epping Club was a great success. Ms Fernandez and Mr Wong made sure the whole night was a resounding party. The acts, singing and dancing, were so much fun and showcased the super talent of our Year 10 students. Of course one of the most popular activities was the photo booth. All night there was a long queue to make sure the students could get the best photo with as many friends as possible.

On Tuesday we had our Orientation Day with Year 7 students for 2018 arriving at 9 am for a half day visit. Ms Belevksi should be thanked for her impeccable organisation. The students had a tour of the school, had their photo taken, had a peer support lesson, bought uniforms and learnt about transport. Year 10 peer support leaders were the best guides, making new friends with their younger buddies. They did look like tour guides with their own James Ruse balloons.

On Tuesday also we had an inaugural cake stall. The mothers really did outdo themselves this time. Hundreds of decorated cupcakes, biscuits and macaroons were devoured by all the students at recess and lunch. All the new parents and students welcomed the chance to have a sweet treat too.

Presentation day this year was huge. Thank you to Mrs Haslehust-Smith and Mrs Hayes for the hours of work collating all the awards. As there were 100 more awards this year, we could only fit those receiving an award and their parents. We may have to make some changes to next year’s program. The prefects excelled themselves with their hard work and the jazz orchestra was fantastic. So too were Eunice and Kevin who played so beautifully.

The holidays are a time for all students to relax. There is no homework and we ask all parents to spend time with their son or daughter. Go to the movies, visit the city, take a ferry ride, go for a walk or a swim, go to the beach……enjoy life. Read some wonderful books and come back to 2018 rested and healthy.

I have enjoyed my time as relieving Principal and must thank Ms Novotni, Mrs Mayers and Mrs Hammed for their help and support. It is a wonderful school and everyone does their very best to ensure that the students are well cared for.

On behalf of all the staff at James Ruse we wish you and your family a safe holiday season. Have a wonderful break. Stay happy and healthy and we will see you in 2018.

Have a wonderful week
