Welcome back to term 4. Hopefully everyone has had a restful and refreshing holiday. Term 4 is always a busy but also exciting term. The HSC starts on Monday and we ask that everyone is very considerate around our HSC venues and the Hall. We wish our wonderful Year 12 students all the very best.
Congratulations to our year 12 students – Michelle Wang, Melissa Lee and Echo Deng – who recently won the National Titration Competition. This is a huge achievement for the team. Thank you to Mrs Fernandez for preparing and coordinating our teams this year.
Congratulations also to Eugene Wang and Keith Yang of Year 12 who have both received nominations for ENCORE. ENCORE is the celebration concert of the 2013 HSC pieces for all Music courses.
Thank you to year 12, teachers and parents for making the last week of Term 3 so special. The Year 12 concert was wonderful, inclusive and creative. The luncheon was beautiful and from all reports the beach day was a huge success. It was with great pleasure that I received a donation cheque of over $1300 from the parents in appreciation of JRAHS support over the six years. We hope to put this money towards seating beside the basketball court.
In the holidays I received a letter from Blacktown City Council, who informed me that Sriganesh Thavalingam (9) won the short stories 11-14 category of the Mayoral Creative Writing Prize. Not only did Sriganesh win $100 for himself, he also won $100 for the school. It is wonderful to see students seeking out these local competitions and excelling in them.
In the last week of term we also celebrated Mrs Beverley Ferguson’s retirement. I would like to publicly thank Lisa Li who generously made and donated a beautiful cake for this event. We welcome Myra Truong as our new canteen supervisor on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays. I would also like to thank all the parents who help in their canteen, and particularly Mrs Shirley Kwan and Mrs Vivian La, who have helped so much in this time of transition.
Congratulations to Brendan Ma (10) who has been selected into the Western Sydney Regional Debating team. Brendan will compete in the State Championships. We wish him luck.
This week we have celebrated NAIDOC week at JRAHS. We started with a wonderful assembly and were reminded of the fabulous achievements of many indigenous Australians.
Our Year 11 Drama production 'The Wonderful World of Dissocia' (Anthony Neilson) was staged this week. If you did not see it last night, please come along to the school hall tonight at 7pm.
On Monday, Year 9 and Year 7 students will receive their NAPLAN results.
Over the next few weeks our accounts department will get ready for the implementation of our new finance software – SAP. This will involve some disruption to the service we can offer. We will complete “rollover” (our end of year) on November 6th and the accounts office will be virtually closed for the changeover process until November 15th. If you have outstanding accounts to be paid it would be very convenient if you could do so before October 28th or after November 15th.
Coming up very soon is Korean Food Day on October 21st – which will be another fabulous fundraising event.
