An intercultural opportunity. In the first week of the September/October school holidays (24 September to 1 October) a group of performing arts students will visit China (Ningbo and Huangpu) as part of our Region’s annual cultural exchange commitment with these provinces. There is an opportunity for up to four additional (non-performing arts) students to participate in the tour. The additional students' collective role would be public speaking in the context of the concerts, school visits including presentations to schools and formal occasions with our Chinese partner organizations. These students would be able to use these opportunities to share Australian cultural knowledge and also act as ambassadors of their schools and visit their schools' sister schools. We need confident public speakers, proficient in Mandarin. This trip is being managed as an international excursion through St Marys Senior High School. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in going.

Year 11 Crossroads camp. Year 11 had a very successful camp to meet mandatory syllabus criteria on 9/10 May.

NAPLAN. This went very smoothly this week. It should give us some data to work with some individual students. Thank you to Years 7 and 9 for their serious, co-operative approach.

Parent Teacher Night for years 7/9/12. Many parents had the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with teachers on Thursday night. If you missed out, please ring the school and we can arrange for you to talk to a teacher or one of the deputies: Ms St Louis (years 7/9/11) or Ms Connors (years 8/10/12).

Year 12 progress. Year 12 are to be congratulated on their progress to date. The majority are steadily improving. At a year assembly on Thursday many students received a certificate of achievement for their high estimated ATARs. More importantly, so many had improved that only those who improved by more than 23 marks were presented with a certificate of improvement. Well done, and keep supporting each other.
Meditation A number of staff and Year 12 students attended the first meditation session at 8.30 am on Thursday. This is being offered to help our Year 12 with stress reduction, and will occur each Thursday morning before school.

Friday. This goes to print before all the events occurring this Friday:
Bandalism; NAPLAN catchup; James Ruse Shakespeare Festival; Business Studies Competition; Shave for a Cure at recess and lunch; Musical rehearsal and sleepover after school. What a day! Thank you to everyone who is sponsoring the four teachers and the senior students who are shaving their hair to raise money for leukaemia research.
