Today we await the results of the 44th International Chemistry Olympiad being held in Washington, USA. Marco Lee and Brian Gao of Year 12 have been in a “communication blackout” over the last three days as they compete for the Australian team. We eagerly await the results.

Last Friday 7 teams competed in the UNSW Progcomp’s Open Round and achieved excellent results. Joshua Lau (11), Ray Li (10) and Ishraq Huda (9) known as HalfOpenInterval came 3rd in a very challenging competition and now move onto the Grand Final on Saturday 1 st September at the UNSW Open Day.

Our Girls Tennis team have spent this week playing at the State Championships in Coffs Harbour. Susanna Li (8), Sarah Tan (9), Rachel Yang (10) and Susanna Li (11) are to be congratulated on this wonderful achievement.

At the end of Term 2, our JRAHS Interact Club elected its 2012-2013 executive team. Thanya Sritharan (President), Stephanie Wu (Vice President), Priya Gurumahan (Secretary), Aileen Zeng (Treasurer), Fiona Ma (Community Liaison Officer), Nina Li (Executive Officer – Senior) and Helena Qian (Executive Officer – Junior) are our new and very enthusiastic leadership team.

On Monday, I attended the first Empowering Local Schools Conference. Our Director General, Michelle Bruniges, introduced the new Resources Allocation Model, which will be how we receive our funding in 2013. We should find out the detail of our school allocation in October this year. The latest information on the Empowering Local Schools National Partnership can be found at http://www.schools.nsw.edu.au/news/els/index.php.

Thank you to all parents and teachers that attended the Year 9 and 10 parent teacher evening last night. It is so important that communication is maintained between parents, students and teachers. Year 10 are presently selecting their subjects for Year 11 which are due on Friday 3 rd August.

Our Senior Wind Ensemble has completed a successful tour to Yanco Agricultural High School with Mr Armitage, Ms Treskin, and Mr Widmer. On Sunday 5th August our Senior Concert Band will travel to Farrer Agricultural High School.

Year 12 have spent the last two days preparing for their Trial exams, which begin next week. As a whole school community we need to be considerate and aware of our HSC students as they approach this difficult time and offer assistance wherever we can. We wish them all the best in their exams.
