Principal's Report Week 2, Term 4 2013

posted Oct 23, 2013, 5:27 PM by Ms. Connors
At the end of this year we will farewell a legendary member of the James Ruse Community. Mrs Effie Lee has announced that she will retire at the end of this year from her current role as the coordinator of the Uniform Shop. Mrs Lee, also a parent of a James Ruse student, has spent many years serving the students, families and staff of James Ruse. A wonderful friend and colleague, Mrs Lee’s sincere advice, guidance and support have been highly valued by all who know her. Mrs Lee’s close friend and constant support, Mrs Cindy Chong, has also decided to retire at the end of this year. Mrs Chong’s friendly smile was often the first to meet new students and families to JRAHS. Few parents have given our school as much as these two wonderful people have. We will celebrate Mrs Lee’s and Mrs Chong’s retirements later in the year.

Mrs Lee’s retirement will leave an enormous hole in the James Ruse staff and we are now advertising for the position of Uniform Shop Supervisor. The successful applicant will be responsible for running the uniform shop; purchasing supplies, liaising with parent volunteers and selling our uniform to parents and students. Basic accounting skills would be advantageous, however, training will be provided. We are looking for a friendly, approachable and organised person that understands the culture of our school community. The hours of the uniform shop supervisor are 8am – 2pm on Tuesday and Wednesday each school week. The uniform shop is also open for orientation days and interview days. The successful applicant will be offered a temporary contract. If you are interested in finding out more about this position or would like to see the role statement, please contact Mrs Leanne Ryan by email Leanne.ryan10@det.nsw.edu.au.

Applications for the Uniform Shop Supervisor are due to Mrs Ryan by Monday 28th October, 2013. A short CV outlining suitable experiences and skills and including two referees are welcome.

A huge congratulations to the following students who have received invitations to the 2014 Australian Science Olympiad Summer School: David Peng, Dev Kuhasri, Kajanan Parameshwaran, Sai Muralidaran, Cindy Wang, David Chen and Jordan Van. Congratulations to so many students for this wonderful achievement and a special commendation to their teachers and tutors who have prepared them so thoroughly.

The HSC is now well under way and Year 12 students have responded very positively after the first exams. Signing out days for Year 12 are November 4th and 5th. We would really appreciate if Year 12 could ensure they have paid for their formal tickets before this date.

Early next week we will interview our 2014 Year 7 students. This interview is a wonderful opportunity for the Executive and our new Year Advisor, Ms Sandra Fernandez, to meet our new families and welcome them to our fabulous school. Students will also be interviewed by our Year 10 volunteers who will share their experiences of James Ruse and hopefully help new students make a smooth transition to high school.
On Monday 21st we have our Korean Food Day – please see the menu attached. Funds raised will hopefully go towards the building of our first new science lab (C0.2).

Over the next few weeks our accounts department will get ready for the implementation of our new finance software – SAP. This will involve some disruption to the service we can offer. We will complete “rollover” (our end of year) on November 6th and the accounts office will be virtually closed for the changeover process until November 15th. If you have outstanding accounts to be paid it would be very convenient if you could do so before October 28th or after November 15th.
