Principal's Report Week 4, Term 1 2013

posted Mar 13, 2013, 7:02 PM by Ms. Connors

We started the week with our Swimming Carnival, which once again was a huge success. High levels of participation and enthusiasm abounded. Thank you to Mr Peter Low, Ms Megan Russell, Ms Kaarin McKenzie, Mr Jason Driscoll and Ms Kate Boatswain and Mrs Natalie Novotni, our PDHPE and Sport Staff who consistently produce efficient and successful events including this carnival. Our “Superfish” will move on to the Zone Carnival next Tuesday 26th February and Wednesday 27th February – we wish them well. Once again we have high expectations of our team and expect full participation from all selected. We wish them all the best.

Last Friday, Ms St Louis and I attended an Empowering Local Schools conference where we were updated on the new processes being implemented this year. We are changing many of our systems including finance, budgeting and human resources.

Our first School Assembly was held today and showcased our Indigenous Immersion Excursion to Central Australia that was held in September last year. This experience was a wonderfully rewarding and eye opening experience for the students that attended and all would recommend it to their peers. We are in the process of planning our trip to Central Australia in September this year. If you are interested please see Ms Amy Murphy for details.

Our Mock Trial team have begun their preparations for 2013. Thank you to Ms Briggs and Mr Pakes for the assistance you are giving the team.

Mrs Bowen, our Librarian, has developed an Information Literacy program for our Year 7 and Year 8 students and they have begun taking these lessons. It is so important that they learn efficient, effective research skills and are able to critically assess their value and reliability.

Our first Community of James Ruse meeting was held on Tuesday night. Beryl Lin, an ex-student, from last year, gave some wonderful tips on preparing and thriving in the HSC year. Next week, at our Mothers Club meeting on Thursday 28th at 10.30am in the Staff Common Room, Shelley She and Steven Paredes will share their experiences of Year 12 and the HSC year.

On Tuesday night (26th February) we will hold our Year 12 Information Night at 6.30pm in the hall. Both parents and students should attend.

Our Term 1 Religious Service will be held on Thursday 28th February. All students in Year 7 and 8 MUST be at school at 8.50am in the Quad. In Year 9 and 10, students may choose not to attend a service and if so should arrive at school at 10.00am. If they are attending a service they must be at school at 8.50am.
