Congratulations to Ms Amy Murphy who was successful in achieving the position of Head Teacher Gifted and Talented for the next 3 years. As Ms Murphy will be on maternity leave for the beginning of 2014, Mrs Jennifer Bowen, our librarian, will relieve in this position. Congratulations Mrs Bowen. The position of Head Teacher Gifted and Talented has been filled by Ms Joanne McMillan for the last 3 ½ years. Ms McMillan has been inspirational in her leadership at the executive level; her contribution to the development of the 2012-2014 School plan ensured its rigour and creativity and her development of the Year 8 cross curricular project into the 2012 Big Ideas and Questions (IQ) project saw a shift to explicitly identifying the 21st century skills. The shift allows us to embrace the cross curricular focus on the Australian Curriculum. Thank you Ms McMillan for your dedication and service in this role.

BUSHFIRE APPEAL CONCERT: Please support the combined James Ruse and Hurlstone combined concert – all bands playing. We will have many visiting parents from Hurlstone so please come along to support this worthy cause and your child. Concert starts at 7pm.

Congratulations to Brendan Ma (10) who has been selected to compete in the semi-final round of this year’s UN Youth NSW Voice competition. Good luck Brendan.

Earlier this week we met architects to begin our design briefs for both the Science Laboratories and the Multiple Purpose Centre (Gymnasium). Although this is only the start of a very long journey, at least we have begun. We will need to continue our fundraising efforts for all facilities to ensure they are of the quality that we wish.

Accounts Changeover: Next week we complete our financial rollover (end of year). This allows us to begin budgeting and planning for 2014. The complete move to SAP by the whole Department of Education, a new financial system, requires an initial shutdown of all accounting facilities for the next two weeks. We will not be able to accept payments or pay for purchases during this time. Although our new system will open to us on November 18th we will not have any access to this system beforehand. Only limited functions will be able to be performed between November 18th and 23rd. Thank you to all parents who were able to finalise their accounts before this period. The new system promises far better services in the future such as a parent portal where parents will be able to pay online, however, I am not sure when these will be active. On behalf of the whole school community, I would like to thank Mrs Janie Golding, Mrs Bernadette Liddell, Mrs Joy West and Mrs Kathyrn Longmuir for managing this huge change to our accounting systems.
Well done to all our Year 7 to 10 students who have completed their yearly exams this week. Thank you to all their teachers for setting and marking the exams and the feedback that will come from these exams. Only one more week of the HSC – the students have been approaching each new exam with positivity and calm. Compared to other years, there has been very little illness – which is wonderful. After next week we will host their formal, a very special night for students and staff.
