Ideas Forum. Please consider entering our new extra-curricular event. On Thursday 1st December 2011 students will host their own IDEAS Forum! Adapted from the TED Talks philosophy and structure, students (individually or collaboratively) will present an “idea worth spreading”.
They are hoping their ideas will change attitudes and lives.

At this stage, students are presenting on a variety of issues for various levels (local and global). Their presentation can take any format – speech, film and/or performance (music/drama) and the time limit is between 5-8 minutes. Thank you to Ms Murphy for her leadership of this project.

Maclean High School visit. Six teachers from Maclean HS visited the school on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday to look at our programs and policies. Thank you to the Year 9 students who led the school tours: George He, Karina Shum, Michael Paulraj, Richard Tong, Swathi Sridharan, Michelle Mo. They were wonderful ambassadors and sources of information. Thank you to the students who shared their experiences of their leadership and extracurricular activities: Sharon Mo, Brian Gao, Vaishni Mahendravarman, Sandra Li, Alex Yip and Clarence Ma. Hopefully, some longer term links will develop, especially with a visit by their indigenous students. Thank you to Ms McMillan for her leadership of this event.

Intermediate Band Tour. The band returned from a wonderful three day tour. They were very well received everywhere they played. The students have learned lots of teamwork and leadership skills, as well and music and gold panning skills!

Year 12 signing out. By the end of this week all of Year 12 should have signed out. We expect to see most of them at the BBQ on Friday 16 December after the HSC results come out on Wednesday 14 December. I really appreciate those families who were able to donate their textbook deposit back to the school. In earlier newsletters I have outlined how all contributions are spent. All monies benefit the students.

Have your say. Review of School Facilities Standards You can now have your say on the classrooms of the future. Parents are encouraged to participate in an online survey as part of a comprehensive review of the School Facilities Standards. The standards, developed during the 1970s, outline how school facilities are designed and built. The review will determine the relevance and appropriateness of the standards for teaching and learning in the 21st century. The review will consider: changes in the way education is delivered; technological advances; increased community expectations. To have your say go to the parent online survey:

New online career planning tool. Students in Years 9-12 now have a new online career planning facility as part of the Student Pathways Survey tool accessed through the student portal. Once students have completed the survey, they will receive an immediate feedback report. This helps them decide on the next steps in their career planning and contains some live links to assist them. They can develop a plan to help them get there. The plan is unique to each student who completes the survey and it can be updated at any time during the year, without redoing the online survey. The student portal can be found at:
