Congratulations to Erny Tsao (12) and Sarah Tan (10) who have been invited to represent NSW in the 2013 National Table Tennis Championships. Erny will compete in the open category in the Men’s B Team and Sarah will compete in the U21 Women’s team. The competition will be held in the Sydney Indoor Sports Hall – Grand Parade Olympic Park from 6 July to 13 July inclusive. We wish both our young champions well.

Eva Gu (11) will participate in the UBS Finance Academy at Women's College, Sydney University from 1 – 5 July, 2013. It will be wonderful to hear of Eva’s experiences of this prestigious event.

The following article, written by Nora Edmekdjian, our wonderful liaison with Ryde Rotary, was published in this week’s edition of ‘The Hub”:

The Rotary Club of Ryde has been helping the Salvos for the past 17 years to raise funds during Red Shield Appeal. Once again James Ruse Agricultural High School Interact Club and the Rotary Club of Ryde combined efforts to door knock on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May. This year 80 students door knocked in Denistone and Eastwood suburbs. Five vehicles were used to transport the students over the two days, three of the drivers were Rotarians and we had help from four community bus drivers who were happy to donate their time to help the Salvos.

The three car dealers in Ryde area that offered help by providing a vehicle or sponsored a vehicle were Ryde Toyota, Tom Kerr Auto and Brad Garlick Ford. Every year these generous helpers offer more when they see the effort the community puts in to assist the Salvos. My sincere thanks go to both Rotarian drivers and Rotarian collectors. Together with the students we raised $8,050 for the Appeal and this is an increase of $1,600 from last year.

The James Ruse Interact Club organised this community service event and was superbly coordinated by Fiona Ma (12) and Priya Gurumahan (12). Our Interact canteen at the Musical raised over $600 which was donated to MS Australia and supported Michael Zhang’s (12) Megaswim for Multiple Sclerosis.

Our HSC cohort has almost finished their Term 2 exams. Ensuring they keep a regular revision program is necessary over the coming weeks – the trial examinations starting on Thursday 1st August will arrive very quickly.

Next week we will hold our Year 8 Information Evening on Tuesday night at 6.45 pm. Year 8 will be given their subject selection booklet for 2014 subjects on Monday. The evening should conclude at 8.30pm. To ensure a quicker format we will not be serving refreshments. Both students and parents are expected to attend.

On Wednesday, Year 11 nominated their peers for the upcoming prefect election. Students that are successful in gaining a place on the ballot paper will advertise themselves on one A4 sheet of paper which will be displayed on the L Block windows. No other form of advertising or promotion is permitted. Next Wednesday the 19th, the school will vote for their new prefect body in rollcall and the 2013-2014 prefects will be announced on Friday 21st.
