posted Dec 4, 2012, 3:47 PM by Unknown user
Justice Week at James Ruse has flourished this week. The Social Justice team led by Ms Murphy have done a wonderful job of highlighting different needs and supporting a range of worthy charities. Year 8 sold delicious macarons to raise money for Hunger Gap. Year 9 painted our faces with endangered animals while UNICEF raised awareness and funds. Year 7 have been busy selling “guesses” in their enormous jar of lollies raising money for the Smith Family.

As part of Justice Week, Year 10 High Resolves presented their project, D.O.V.E, to an audience of teachers, students and High Resolves coordinators. On Tuesday Year 8 completed their final Justice module of High Resolves. D.O.V.E day on Thursday ensured that the whole school was more aware of the issues surrounding domestic violence and oppression.

On Tuesday night we held the HSC Music recital. Superb performances were enjoyed by the packed lecture theatre. Congratulations to Kerry Chen, Rebecca Yu, Lian Park, Richard Guan, Richard She, Austin Shen, Fiona Li and Caleb Wu. We wish them all the best in their upcoming HSC performances on September 10.

Jeffrey Khoo (8) and Jayne Kwon (10) attended the Youth Leadership Conference in Parramatta.

Last week, our Year 10 classes visited Bathurst and Gloucester to experience real farm life and gain further insights into the beef cattle industry. Ag Enrichment have entered an exciting competition titled “The Archibull Prize”… we look forward to seeing their progress.

Year 7 students auditioned recently for a new TV show called “Kitchen Whiz”. Fourteen students have been selected to compete on the program which will be filmed on October 10 th.

On Tuesday night, Theresa Dinh spoke of her career as a Barrister to a large audience of parents and students as part of the CoJR meeting. We also discussed the Ausgrid proposal and a working party of parents was formed to assist the school in ensuring that the safety of the students and staff is a priority.

Our Prelim exams start on Friday August 31st.

Tomorrow at the UNSW Open Day our students Joshua Lau (11), Ray Li (10) and Ishraq Huda (9) will compete in the UNSW Progcomp. We wish them all the best.
