Principal's Report Week 7, Term 3 2013

Congratulations to Daniel Selvadurai (Yr 7) placed first in the Regional Final of the Legacy Public Speaking Competition that is open to years 7-9. He will now represent James Ruse in the State Semi-Final at the NSW Parliament House. We wish him all the very best.

On Monday night we had the pleasure of seeing our wonderful HSC music class perform. Congratulations to Sebastian Tanase, Vivian Qin, Eugene Wang, Justin Wang, Jonathan Chung, Michelle Wang, Rachel Wong and Keith Yang on their spectacular performances.

Congratulations to Kevin Xian (9), Yang Song (10), Jonathan Zheng (12) and Joshua Lau (12) for achieving prizes in this year’s UNSW Mathematics Competition.

It is also my pleasure to report that we have multiple prize winners in the ICAS English competition – Yifei Huang (7), Ivan Shen (7), Andrew Xu (7), Angela Lan (8) and Carla Pham (8). Congratulations to these students.

This week saw a wonderful cake stall and “bake” competition run by Social Justice. Many students displayed their superior baking skills and produced exceptional products. All proceeds will go to the Red Cross.

Thank you to Mothers Club for hosting a special food day on Tuesday. Once again it was fabulous to see so many parents in the school helping us achieve our fund raising goals. Mothers Club are working towards raising funds for projects such as our new science labs.

Student Competition now called RSL ANZAC Art Awards – we have been informed that a past competition “Australia My Country” has changed its name. This competition closes on November 1st. Our talented artists should submit as soon as possible – more details can be found at

Thank you to the parents and students that attended Liz New’s wonderful presentation outlining the benefits of a career in science. Liz is an inspirational ex-student and we will follow her stellar career with pride.

After 12 days of tournaments (ITTF WJC 2013 New Caledonia Junior and Open / Oceania Junior Championships and WJC Oceania Qualifications event) in Noumea, New Caledonia, Sarah Tan (10) has won 2 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals:
  • Bronze in Junior Girls’ Doubles
  • Gold in Junior Girls’ Team
  • Silver in Junior Girls’ Singles
  • Bronze in Junior Mixed Doubles
The Australian Girls’ Team won the event and will proceed to the 2013 World Championships in Morocco, North Africa in December this year. A huge congratulations to Sarah and best wishes for these future events.

Thank you to everyone for buying, selling and returning raffle tickets. A special thank you to Mr Trevor Allison, Mrs Lily Gan and Mrs Cindy Chong for helping in the collection and accounting of this huge event.

The JRAHS Principal position will be advertised again early next term. I will continue in my acting role until we have an outcome.
