Principal’s Report

As term 3 comes to a close, we all look forward to a well deserved break. Next week we celebrate the end of Year 12’s official classroom time – but not the end of our work! On Monday we will experience the final Year 12 concert, Tuesday is the wonderful luncheon for Year 12 and their parents and on Wednesday Year 12 will have a picnic day at Balmoral Beach. A huge thank you to our parents and Mothers Club members who have helped put on our Year 12 luncheon.

State Athletics – We have seen our students achieve unprecedented success at this very prestigious level.
Congratulations to the following students:
Tony Huang - U/12's 100m 1st, 200m 4th, Long Jump 7th
Mudith Jayasekara - U/16's 200m 3rd, 100m 4th
Yoshua Selvadurai - U/14's 800m 3rd, 400m 5th
Jessica Guo - U/14's 3000m 3rd, 1500m 13th.
Boys 14's Relay 7th
Girls 16's Relay 16th

Badminton - Six students competed in and won the Great Badminton Association of Sydney Boys DIV 1 Championship. - Anthony Ooi, Radman Zhang, Daniel Chiew, Leo Huang, Jason Yip and Joshua Wong. Congratulations and well done to these students.

Table Tennis – Sarah Tan, along with her teammate from Romania (ITTF With the Future in Mind Team) won the test match against Korean Junior TTF. Sarah has been selected to represent NSW at the 2012 Australian Junior Table Tennis Championships in Perth from 29 th September to 6th October. Well done Sarah.

Debating – Last night the CHS Debating team of which Thanya Sritharan (Yr 11) is a member won the first round of the State competition. Congratulations Thanya.

Awards Day – On Tuesday we recognised the amazing achievements of our current Year 12s and their predecessors of 2011. It was wonderful to welcome back so many of our high achievers from last year and hear their exciting stories of university life. We had the honour of hosting Toni Powell, ex-student 1983, as our guest speaker. Toni shared her story of her wonderful career as an opera singer but also the challenges

she has faced living with multiple sclerosis. We were privileged to hear Toni sing “Climb every Mountain” and we hope her message remains with all our students. Mr Alan Best not only accompanied Toni on piano but also conducted the talented String Ensemble. Jin Yoo (8) and Keith Yang (11) were impressive in their solo parts. The Senior Wind Ensemble, conducted by Mr Glenn Armitage, filled the hall with the wonderful sounds of “Overture to HMS Pinafore” by Gilbert and Sullivan. Our Prefects were so professional in fulfilling their
roles for Awards Day. Jessica Zeng (School Captain), Kerry Xue (Vice Captain), Chelsea Valentin (Senior Prefect), Vithoo Sivanathan and Rosalie Chen (Sports Captains) conducted the entire event with poise and grace. We owe them our gratitude.

Year 11 Information Night was held last night. Mr Deigan discussed career opportunities / scholarships and university placements and I outlined the process of scaling and ATAR calculation.

Meeting with Ausgrid – DEC representatives, Ausgrid representatives and I met on Wednesday to search for alternatives to their proposal to impact our land. At present we are hoping that any infrastructure changes will occur on the Endeavour Energy land not on ours. We are assured that there will be no additional current / electromagnetic field due to any plans. Overall, the meeting was very positive, however the
additional costs will need to be borne by the developer, Dyldam, hence no decisions have been made. I will keep you informed as I learn more. Thank you to those parents that have joined the CoJR working party.

New Student Orientation Day – Today we held our new student orientation day. We welcome a wonderful group of new students to Years 9, 10 and 11.

Cuts to Public Education – As you will have seen in the media, the government has reduced spending to education in general. We need to be aware of the impact this may have on our schools and students in public education.

Upcoming Events:
This weekend – Duke of Edinburgh Silver Walk on the central coast and Cadet Bivouac to Newnes
Monday 17th – Period 4 and 5 Year 12 Final Concert
