Principal's Report: Week 9, Term 4 2011

This is the last newsletter for 2011. What a magnificent year it has been. We receive HSC results on Wednesday 14 December. Students receive their reports on 15 December. The first day of term for Years 7, 11 and 12 is Monday 30 January (which will be week 2) and for Years 8,9,10 the first day is Tuesday 31 January.

Presentation Day. Congratulations to all our awardees. We acknowledged:
  • 98 Academic awards
  • 39 individual Sport awards 11 groups awards
  • 48 Co-curricular awards
  • 31 Special awards
  • 155 Competition awards
  • 29 James Ruse Distinction awards, for students who have fulfilled the criteria and achieved excellence in all 8 sections, as described in the diary, of school life.
Thank you to all the staff and parents who made all these achievements possible.

End of Year Music Concert. We have many wonderful performers this Thursday night. We will showcase the best performers from the last two Performers Evenings as well as our bands, strings, choir and ensembles. I hope that all parents will be there to support their child’s performance.

School certificate results. This may be the last time we have a School Certificate exam but our students finished with a BANG! The results are outstanding, and also an improvement on last year. Below are the means our students scored, and the state means.

Art Express. Two HSC art works have finally been selected for ARTEXPRESS. Congratulations to Anna Ye (Thick Skinned) and Anna Zhong (Healthy Living). The former will be at the Armory, Sydney Olympic Park and at the Female Orphan School, UWS. The latter will be at the NSW Art Gallery Griffith, and Western Plains Gallery, Dubbo.

Bridge Building. On Wednesday Year 9 spent two periods meeting the challenges of bridge building in the hall. The bridges constructed were varied and interesting. Some met the weight challenges better than others.

Australian Pole Vault Championships. Congratulations to Mudith Jayasekara, who received a gold medal in the Under 16 men‟s Pole Vault at the "Athletics Australia - 2011 All School‟s Championship" in Brisbane on Saturday 3rd December. As a result, he is currently the national champion for Under 16 men‟s pole vault in Australia. Attached below is an image taken at the medal presentation at the competition.

Grammar lessons. It may be the second last week of the year but Mr Wilson is continuing to run master classes on grammar at lunchtimes on Thursdays. Thank you Mr Wilson.

Publication Club. This is a student-led initiative. Please encourage your child to join if they are a “writer, artist, techno-whizz or reporter”. These students will produce a student run magazine in 2012.

MUFTI on Friday. Gold coin donations will be collected for Make a Wish Foundation this Christmas. Thank you to the prefects and SRC for continuing to promote such a wonderful school spirit with their sales, games and events.

Merry Christmas! A Happy New Year! See you all next year. I am confident 2012 will bring lots of joy and new learning.
