With sadness, we learnt at the end of last week that former Principal, Mr Ted Clark, passed away on Thursday 2nd August at the age of 80 years. Mr Clark was Principal of both Mitchell High School and James Ruse Agricultural High School (1989-1991). Mr Clark was the beloved husband of Helga, father and father- in-law of Jen, Alan and Narrelle, Robyn and Greg and grandfather of Michael and Lauren.

Mr Clark is remembered by staff as a kind and caring Principal whose generosity of spirit endeared him to all staff and all students. He was especially generous with his own time and whole-heartedly supported all wider school endeavours, from Girls' Knockout Soccer to School Musical to Cadets. “Everything was smooth sailing under Ted.” Mr Clark was a thorough gentleman and is sadly missed by our school community.

Congratulations to Rayan Premaratna (7), Kai Lun (9) and Winney Kuang (10) who achieved perfects scores in
the ICAS Writing competition.

Last week students were issued Raffle Tickets. Fundraising efforts by the CoJR are so important to the provision of vital needs for our school. As I am sure you are aware, learning has become so much more comfortable in our air conditioned rooms. In 2011 and 2012, the CoJR have ensured that all rooms that need air conditioning have been catered for. Very soon our last phase, the Drama Room and upper level of Powe
Block will be completed. Each family has been issued tickets. Please encourage your son or daughter to sell their tickets and return sold tickets and money to roll call on Fridays or to the Uniform Shop. Year 12 will receive their raffle tickets next week.

Next week the SRC and Cloud 9 will host our first Happiness Week. The SRC have once again worked energetically to provide activities to improve the wellbeing of students. Our students are very aware that to perform at their best and be successful in life they need to ensure that they are resilient and resourceful young people. Cloud 9, formerly Happiness Equals Bracket, is a new student initiative. Our ex-students have
continued this initiative and are now raising awareness on university campuses. Further information can be found at their website: http://www.feeloncloud9.org/

Our HSC students are completing their Trial Examinations today. The now important time of feedback,
completion of courses, revision and completion of practice papers begins. Parents of Year 12 please keep an
eye on Mr Deigan’s newsletter abstracts and his Careers website on the intranet for important dates re
university application, scholarships etc. that are all coming up soon.

Next Thursday is our Term 3 Religious Service. Students and parents are reminded that all students in Year 7 and 8 must attend school at 8.50am and meet in the Quad. Students will then be directed to appropriate services or rooms. Students in years 9-12 are given the option of attending at 8.50am and attending a service or arriving from 10.00am to begin the day. On this same day Mother’s Club will hold
their AGM and also host Anna Zhong as the guest speaker. Anna leaves for Harvard in the following week.
